The municipality of Maissana borders on the famous biological farming area of Varese Ligure. Biological farming is also practiced in the many villages – they are altogether 10 in number - of Maissana, in order to produce excellent vegetables. Not withstanding this fact, only approx. 20% of the agricultural area is utilized, the remaining part is for the most part covered by chestnut forests.
The time seems to have stopped still in the villages of Santa Maria di Lagorara, Campore, Ossegna, Cembrano, Torza, Tavarone, Disconesi, Colli di Maissana, Salterana and Chiama even up to today. They enchant their residents and the visitors with the charm of old stone houses, the quiet of the mountains and the good local dishes. Sportsmen, especially mountain bikers and hikers, get their money’s worth absolutely in Val di Vara.
