Camogli used to be known as the City of a Thousand Sails thanks to the boom in ship building in the mid-nineteenth century. This golden age is recaptured in the Museo Marinaro Gio Bono Ferrari (Mon, Wed, Fri 09.00 – 14.00, Sun 09.00 – 14.00, 16.00 – 19.00).
It was also around this time that the colourful eight-storey apartment block skyline appeared by the harbour. For most of the inhabitants, their rear exit is on the fourth floor taking them directly out into the town centre streets.
The promenade, which links up with the wide pebble beach, will take you to the baroque church of S. Maria Assunta, richly decorated with gold and paintings.
The Sagra del Pesce festival is held every May. Visitors can sample delicious fried fish.
